We are foodie lovers !
I am Basile Jodeau, a true foodie lover 🤤. It's been already 3 years since I live in Barcelona, one of the best cities in the world. I am always looking forward to discover new places to eat, tiny restaurants, big restaurants, local secrets, classics and new dishes. Lucky me Barcelona has an amazing culinary landscape, a life time is not enough to try every restaurant in this city !

Today I would like to talk you about some typical Catalan food which I think is really delicious.
Have you heard about Calçots ? If you haven’t been to Catalunya during the months of February and March, probably not !
To begin with, a Calçot is a Catalan term that define a variety of small long onions soft and tenders. They grow between January and March all across the Catalunya region. Catalans look forward to this season and are such fans of this food that they have a special name for when they gather to eat it: “La Calçotada”. One of the most curious and popular culinary discovery I made when I came here here !
It’s part of their culture, it’s an event you share, with family, friends and colleagues ! Honestly, if you end up doing a Calçotada by yourself that would be weird, even though I can picture one or two of my Catalan friends who actually could. The whole ritual around that is what’s the best. You put on an apron so as to avoid stains, you get a huge dish filled with carbonised calçots and, with your hands, you carefully undress this burnt layer and dip the calçot in “Salsa Romesco” (the best part) before giving the first bite.
Do not be afraid to get dirty, this Catalan tradition don't care about manners. Even more, you have no cutlery and drink wine directly from the jar !
When the season starts, you can find Calçotadas everywhere in town, but hey, the real ones cannot be found so easily. You might want to look for secret spots in Barcelona surroundings ! 😉
My best option? Can Feliu & Nou Can Marti
